Starting in 1999, Chris Shovein's law enforcement career has deeply informed his work at At the READY. His crisis management and tactical operations roles have equipped him with critical skills and insights for teaching self-defense and safety. This expertise forms the foundation of At the READY's practical training approach, directly benefiting participants seeking to enhance their personal security.

Since 1992, Chris Shovein has been deeply involved in martial arts, transitioning from Mixed Martial Arts to achieving a black belt in Okinawan Uechi Ryu, and currently studying Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. This extensive training enriches his role at At the READY by providing a solid foundation in combat techniques and self-defense strategies. His martial arts expertise not only enhances his teaching capabilities but also ensures that the self-defense techniques taught are practical, effective, and rooted in a deep understanding of physical confrontation dynamics.

Chris Shovein's background as an Eagle Scout and his passion for outdoor survival skills significantly contribute to his leadership and instructional approach at "At the READY." This experience instills a robust understanding of preparedness, adaptability, and resilience in outdoor and unpredictable environments.
